Fair question, and it got sharper this month: ChatGPT Health now connects Apple Health and MyFitnessPal for everyone in the US. Ask it what to eat and you'll get a competent answer. Here's what it isn't built to do.

Your calories and macros come out of published equations, resting metabolism, measured expenditure, protein per kilo of fat-adjusted weight, computed the same way every time. Ask a language model the same question twice and you can get two different numbers, neither showing its work. Ours is on the methodology page, line by line.

Can't I just ask ChatGPT what to eat?
You can, and with ChatGPT Health connecting Apple Health and MyFitnessPal it will answer competently. The difference is where the number comes from: Sweatmeal computes your calories and macros from published equations and your measured expenditure, the same way every time, and shows the working. It also keeps the ledger, holding today's running balance, the week behind it and your weight trend, and corrects its own maintenance estimate as that trend comes in. A chat answers the question in front of it; this is built to hold a number across a season.
How is Sweatmeal different from MyFitnessPal or a calorie counter?
Sweatmeal sets your daily target from how you actually trained, not just your bodyweight. A hard session opens up more carbs; a rest day tightens the target - so the number reflects the day you had instead of a flat average. Training load is the input other trackers ignore.
Do I need a wearable to use it?

How do you calculate my calories and macros?
Your goal sets a daily deficit or surplus, cycled around training and eased when recovery is low, but never below your RMR. Protein and fat are set per kilo of a fat-adjusted weight to protect muscle; carbs are whatever is left - the energy you earn - with a floor on training days. When a number is an estimate rather than measured, we say so.
